Professor Carapetis is Executive Director of The Kids Research Institute Australia in Perth, Western Australia, an infectious diseases consultant physician at Perth Children’s Hospital, and a Professor at The University of Western Australia. His research interests include rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease, other group A streptococcal diseases, vaccine-preventable disease, Aboriginal child health, child and youth health, development and education, and skin sores and scabies. Professor Carapetis is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Sciences (FAA) and the Australian Academy of Health & Medical Sciences (FAHMS). In 2018, he was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his significant contribution to medical research. His previous positions include President, Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes (AAMRI); Director, Menzies School of Health Research, Darwin; and Theme Director, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Melbourne.
