dr Tangeni Auala
Tangeni Auala is the first Namibian Adult Cardiologist and leads the Division of Adult Cardiology at the Windhoek Central Hospital Complex in Namibia.
She is committed to providing a holistic diagnostic, therapeutic, rehabilitative and health promotive service for people living with heart conditions regardless of socioeconomic status.
She completed her specialisation and cardiology training at the University of Cape Town and with her colleagues has set up the only comprehensive clinical , imaging , device , structural, electrophysiology and surgical service for cardiovascular disease for the public sector in Namibia.
She is a fellow of the Global PCR Academy, a senior lecturer at The University of Namibia School of Medicine and enjoys mentoring medical students , interns and house officers and continues to supervise research students and contributes to her alma mater the University of Cape Town’s Academic Program.
Her research interests span the spectrum of cardiovascular disease with a particular in women’s health and peripartum cardiomyopathy; neglected cardiovascular diseases such as acute rheumatic fever, rheumatic heart disease , congenital heart disease and heart failure, health economics and clinical trials which she is pursuing.
She is involved in a number of quality improvement programs to ensure the care delivered to patients is equitable, of a high standard and sustainable.
She is a member of the International Society of Hypertension Regional African Group contributing to work toward the Unified guidelines of Hypertension and The School for Hypertension for Non physician Health Care workers.
She is a World Heart Federation Emerging leader with an interest in elucidating the disparities in access , availability and affordability to essentials cardiovascular diagnostics and therapeutics in effort to provide universal health coverage to all.
Tangeni and her team are enthusiastic grant recipients of WHF CTSH Namibia project which aims at raising awareness about acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease ,a preventable but still prevalent cardiovascular disease in Namibia with a goal that this project contribute to the efforts to eradicate ARF and RHD in our lifetime.
