DR Twalib Aliku

I work as a Senior Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist at the Uganda Heart Institute (UHI) and also serve as a Senior Lecturer at the Uganda Christian University School of Medicine (UCUSoM) in the department of Paediatrics and Child Health. Currently I chair the fellowship training and community outreach committees at the UHI, reflecting my commitment in the education of the next generation of transformational health experts and ensuring equitable access to cardiovascular care in the country.

My key interests are in interventional pediatric cardiology and research in pediatric heart disease, including rheumatic heart disease (RHD), CHD and cardiovascular care in resource poor settings. I lived and worked in Gulu in Northern Uganda for over a decade, pioneering school screening for RHD in that part of the country.  Currently I am a co-principal Investigator of a research project called ‘Leveraging Rheumatic Heart Disease Programs to Improve Congenital Heart Disease Outcomes in Northen Uganda (CHIPS study), a joint research project with colleagues from the US
