Dr Charles Oyoo

Dr. Charles Oyoo Akiya is the Commissioner Health Services, Prevention and Control of Non-communicable diseases, Ministry of Health, Uganda. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Medicine and Surgery and a Master's Degree in Public Health from Makerere University; and an advanced diploma in Public Administration and management from Uganda Management Institute; as well as an ordinary diploma in monitoring and evaluation from Institute of Applied Manpower Research, New Delhi, India; and a Fellowship in Governance, Leadership and Management of decentralized health services from Makerere University School of Public Health in partnership with the MoH.

Dr. Charles has over 20 years of experience in public health-related interventions, including clinical work at primary care levels and management of decentralized health services. He is passionate about public health and a very strong advocate of the poor and the disadvantaged groups. His main interests are research, governance, leadership and management for effective delivery of public health interventions, with a bias in prevention and control of non-communicable diseases.
