Dr Joselyn Rwebembera

Dr. Joselyn Rwebembera is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Uganda Heart Institute and Deputy Director of the Rheumatic Heart Disease Research Collaborative in Uganda (RRCU).

Her work focuses on improving the prevention, detection and management of RHD in high-burden, resource-limited settings, with particular expertise in echocardiographic screening, early RHD, clinical trials, implementation science and decentralized models of care.

She has led and contributed to a programme of RHD research spanning community screening, diagnostic innovation, secondary and primary prevention, and implementation research, including the GOAL clinical trial and its subsequent studies.

Dr. Rwebembera contributed to the development of the 2023 World Heart Federation Guidelines for the Echocardiographic Diagnosis of RHD and has worked extensively to translate research evidence into practical approaches for RHD care and prevention. Her work is particularly focused on generating evidence that can inform clinical practice, policy and scalable RHD programmes in populations most affected by the disease.
