Professor Thushan de Silva

Thushan de Silva is Professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Sheffield, Co-Director of the Florey Institute of Infection, and holds a concurrent Clinical Associate Professor position at the MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM.

He is an academic infectious diseases physician whose research combines human immunology with molecular and immuno-epidemiology, spanning respiratory viral infections (including SARS-CoV-2, RSV and influenza) and Strep A.

His Strep A work focuses on the molecular epidemiology, transmission and immunity Strep A embedded within household, school and birth cohorts in The Gambia.
